Platinum Games Bringing a Beautiful Anime Action RPG To PS4

If the name Granblue Fantasy doesn’t sound familiar to you, that’s okay. If the names Nobuo Uematsu and Hideo Minaba aren’t familiar to you, well, then we have a problem. Uematsu is one of the best composers of all time, and you might recognize his work from most of the Final Fantasy games, or more recent like The Last Story, Fantasy Life, Terra Battle, or even some from Oceanhorn. Hideo Minaba is an established artist/art director, having also worked on Final Fantasy games like FFV, FFVI, FFIX, FFXII, and FF Tactics(yay!). These two have teamed up again to help make a very established mobile game that has almost twenty million players that is called, you guessed it, Granblue Fantasy. Developed by Cygames for your Androids and iPhones, Granblue Fantasy sadly never made its way over here, even though the game has an English option. I have read you can side load it, but that is for you to decide.

Fast forward to some novels, an anime series, and the already established mobile game, and it seemed that it was only a matter of time before it hit the PS Vita or PS4. Now that day has come. Titled Granblue Fantasy Project Re: Link. And Platinum Games(Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101) has been tapped to turn this into a serene anime filled with all the combos you can shake a stick at. I am really excited for this game, and hope it comes stateside so I can traverse what looks to be an open world brawler. Add in the unconfirmed rumor that it will have online co-op, and I will find a way to import it if I have to.

In the game play shown earlier last week, we see Knight Katalina traversing a just flat out gorgeous town reminiscent of Ni No Kuni, but with a much sharper look to it. It eventually switches to a battlefield, which shows off Platinum’s stronger side, which reminds me of a Nier meets Musou(Warrior games) type action. Hopefully we will see more unfold in the months to come, and we will be here to keep you posted!
